Responsibilities What are the Major Duties of this Position? Serves as an Inmate Classification & Computation Technician located within the Designations and Sentence Computation Center (DSCC) for the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
Responsible for Judgment & Commitment files, sentence computations, release audits of computations, computation case audits, security and control of records, and initial inmate classifications for designations.
Collects all necessary information from the US District Court, US Marshal Service and US Probation Office, or other authorities needed to request and provide designation and compute inmates' sentences.
Serves as a subject matter expert, assisting institution staff with responses to questions and interpretations of status and case law within their respective field.

Click Here Qualifications How Do I Qualify for this Position? To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements:
Education:
GL-08 and GL-09:
As a general rule, education is not creditable above GL-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.
OR Experience GL-08 and GL-09:
You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level in federal service.
To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position, and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled.
Some examples of the qualifying specialized experience are:
GL-08:
Experience reviewing, interpreting and classifying court orders related to commitment and the related computation of release dates and parole eligibility.
Experience performing sentence computations, including auditing, reviewing and providing responses to questions.
Experience completing initial offender designations to institutions or contract facilities.
GL-09:
Experience reviewing, interpreting, classifying and applying various laws, court orders and/or administrative decisions related to commitment, and computation of release dates and parole eligibility.
Experience with performing sentence computations, security and maintenance of the electronic records, and coordination of all aspects of the legal commitment and incarceration of offenders.
Experience performing investigations into inmates' prior criminal history, application of federal sentencing laws and guidelines, outstanding warrants, state extradition laws, tracking prior periods of incarceration for determining lawful application of jail time credit, and responding to law enforcement agency inquires (i.
e.
, FBI, Secret Service, U.
S.
Postal Service, U.
S.
Attorney's Office).

Additional Information This position IS included in the bargaining unit.
The representative rate for this position is $70,216 per annum ($33.
64 per hour) for applicants eligible for law enforcement officer (LEO) coverage; and $68,151 per annum ($32.
65 per hour) for all other applicants.
NOTE:
Salary ranges for all grade levels include both LEO and non-LEO salaries.
LEO salaries apply to current LEO employees.
Special Conditions of Employment Section:
Appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of a urinalysis, physical, and background investigation.

Current Federal Law Enforcement Employees:
A prerequisite of the secondary law enforcement position is the completion of the mandatory courses in Introduction to Correctional Techniques Phase I and Phase II.
If you have not completed the mandatory courses in Introduction to Correctional Techniques Phase I and Phase II, you are ineligible for secondary law enforcement position(s) and coverage but may still be considered for a non-law enforcement position.
Individuals selected who are under the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) or Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) and who have not had three years primary law enforcement retirement coverage, will not be covered by law enforcement retirement while in this position.
To regain coverage, individuals must return to a position with primary coverage.
