Performs all behaviors of Emergency (911) and Non-Emergency Call Take.
Opportunity for advancement to dispatcher positions after proven proficiency as 911 Call Taker.
Reports to/Supervises:
This position reports directly to their Communications Supervisor and is required to work collaboratively with other CareFlite personnel to accomplish the CareFlite mission and vision.
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:
Responsible for the safe operation of all CareFlite Air and Ground assets and practices in accordance with federal, state and local laws and regulations; as well as CareFlite Policies and Procedures.
Adheres to all safety requirements in the performance of these duties.
Responsible for ensuring that CareFlite is perceived by its customers in a positive manner by conducting all interaction in a professional and courteous manner.
Communicates positively with co-workers, patients, family members and medical personnel, as appropriate for this position.
Responsible for the completion of assignments and tasks in the time allotted.
Responsible for the documentation requirements and record keeping related to activities of air and ground units.
As measured by employee's ability to manage time and available resources in completing the requirements of this position.
Required knowledge of the general location of all hospitals in the 19 County North Central Texas Trauma Regional Advisory Council.
Knows the general location of all nursing homes in Dallas County.
Process 911 calls according to the IAED standards.
Demonstrates comprehensive understanding of call taking for ground and air medical ambulances using a computer aided dispatch (CAD) system Obtains correct and thorough patient information from the caller and inputs this information into the CAD in regard to Scene Flights, Interfacility Flights, 911 Calls, Emergency and Non-Emergency interfacility transports within the CareFlite response area.
Assists dispatchers in coordinating emergency calls and relaying information to CareFlite resources and or Law Enforcement/Fire Department agencies.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Experience Required:
Must be 18 years of age or older High school diploma or its equivalent Ability to effectively communicate Verbal / Written English EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) preferred, but not required.
Basic Medical Terminology preferred.
Understanding of CAD software (Rescue Net) preferred.
Understanding of Priority Dispatch/ProQA preferred.
Understanding of Vesta 911 Phone Systems & Ani/Ali preferred.
Understanding of Avtech Radio Systems preferred.
ETC (Emergency Telecommunicator Certification) within 3-months of hire date.
EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatch) within 3-months of hire date.
Working Knowledge of English language, spelling and usage.
Must pass a critical exam with a score of 80% or higher with 30 WPM or more.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
Ability to make decisions, which have moderate impact on immediate work unit.
Ability to understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions.
Must be able to see and speak with customers and observe equipment operation.
Fast paced environment with frequent interruptions.
