Lockheed Martin is seeking a Materials Science and Process Engineer to perform materials science research, evaluation, and selection in order to provide mechanical engineering design support for development and production applications. Candidate will perform evaluation and selection of engineering processes required to produce mechanical hardware meeting program requirements, such as welding, fastening, adhesive bonding, and materials finishing processes. Also supports materials failure analysis efforts in the Materials Science & Processes Lab or other labs. Applies to the planning, design, development, and testing of new aerospace, defense, and advanced technology products.
The candidate will be performing Materials and Process tasks including preliminary materials and processes research and evaluation, followed by detailed testing and selection on assembly systems and subsystems. Tasks may also include supporting detailed laboratory test plans and procedures followed by test monitoring. The candidate will also be required to support Materials specification and Process specifications for program fabrication and processing.
The candidate will support technical documentation and input to data packages to support peer and customer reviews, and support materials test data to program and customer personnel at technical interchange meetings and design reviews. Performs research, test, and process development of high temperature coatings and materials for aerospace systems and components. Experienced with materials evaluation tools for materials selection.
Basic Qualifications
BS or MS degree from an accredited college in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Welding Engineering, or other related fields. Materials & Processes experience in the aerospace, automotive, or printed wiring board assembly (PWA) industry.
Demonstrated strength in Materials & Processes engineering with a desire to learn more and demonstrated strong problem solving and analytical skills.
Experience with Microsoft Office (i.e. Excel, Word, and PowerPoint). Excellent writing and verbal communication skills for generating materials & processes test plans, reports, documentation, and potentially proposals are necessary.
Candidate must have strong analytical, experimental and organizational skills.
Candidate must have the ability to travel.
Candidate must be able to obtain a security clearance.
Candidate must have a minimum 3.0 GPA
Desired skills
Experience with different Materials Selector and emerging technologies.
Proven leadership with demonstrated interpersonal skills.
Creativity/innovation to solve issues related to materials and processes selection in support of design performance.
Experience with PWA or CCA assembly, processing, and component failure analysis.
Capable of performing in a fast paced, dynamic environment, while multitasking as part of an inclusive engineering team.
The Candidate should be considered educated and proficient, but is still a learner.
