Correctional Program Specialist (CIMS Classification Specialist)

Works with the Central Inmate Monitory System (CIMS) and serves as a CIMS Classification Specialist. Provide a high level of review for transfers, temporary releases, or community activities. Responsible for monitoring the initial classification of inmates that includes development, review, and evaluation of all CIMS policies and procedures in collaboration with the regions and other specialists in the Inmate Monitoring Section (IMS). Responsible for tracking, investigating, and responding to tasks/inquiries related to an inmate's separation concerns during the initial CIMS classification at the time of designation. Provides training to DSCC staff regarding the CIMS Program Statement and Technical Manual. Reviews designation material to ensure the CIMS documentation provided meets policy requirements. Responsible for the development, establishment, ongoing enhancement, and implementation of an electronic CIMS documentation database while working closely with the System Development Branch in the Information, Policy, and Public Affairs Division, fellow IMS staff, DSCC staff, field staff as well as the U.S Marshals Service and Executive Office for the U.S. Attorneys to coordinate the implementation and use of the database and all associated programs and applications. Education:
There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position.
Experience:
You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience is directly related experience that included substantial involvement with a correctional program and provided a thorough knowledge of correctional techniques, or experience in meeting and dealing with people that demonstrated the ability to work effectively with inmates and associates in a correctional environment. Experience must have also demonstrated the ability to perform supervisory or administrative duties successfully. This includes:
(1) understanding the problems of custody, treatment, training, and release of inmates of penal or correctional institutions; (2) a thorough and comprehensive knowledge of an institution's internal policies, programs, regulations, and procedures; and (3) training subordinates, coordinating and directing activities and functions, evaluating performance of operations and the effectiveness of programs, and maintaining high standards or work objectives. This experience must have been gained in an administrative position, or in other positions that included the successful direction, or assistance in the direction of, an entire correctional program or a major phase of such a program. Some examples of this qualifying experience are:
Experience in monitoring CIM classification of Pretrial and newly sentenced inmates to ensure compliance with policy requirements. Experience in developing policy, providing guidance, direction, supervision, and expert advice in the area of Central Inmate Monitoring, to include classification issues and clearance requirements. Experience communicating with BOP staff, staff from other federal agencies, attorneys, and other interested parties regarding various problems and/or concerns regarding classification and designations. Experience synthesizing information and creating innovative solutions to difficult inmate management and classification problems. If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
